Kips Guide To Hackney Picnic Spots
Summer in London is very much starting to kick off, al fresco dining is back, every day of the week feels like a Saturday, and we’re all LOVING the fresh sunny air. In true British fashion we love a good picnic, if it’s 20 degrees or above and there’s even a peep of sun, you’ll always catch us outside having a picnic. If you didn’t know it already Hackney has some gorgeous outdoor settings, so, here’s the Kip guide to Hackney picnic spots…
The Rose Garden
Not many people know about this secret spot in Victoria Park, but once you find it you probably won’t want to go anywhere else for your sunbathing/picnicking. The rose garden is totally serene, perfectly gardened and smells divine! It’s a great place to go with friends for a super chilled afternoon (of course with prosecco and strawberries), with not too many people and easy access to toilets. The best way to get to the garden is via Grove Road (E3 5TB), or if you’re struggling ask a local for the ‘old English garden.’
Beside Regent’s Canal
Hackney is super famous for its canals, you can walk all the way from Regents Park to Victoria park by following the canal…it takes a bit of time, but the canals are not something you want to miss, so you should definitely give it a try on a sunny day! Of course, we are talking about picnics and there’s some great spots along the canal to picnic. We recommend parking (not literally) yourself on the grass beside the canals in Hackney Wick, or getting on the canal at the top of Broadway Market and perching on one of the miniature bridges that act as a stopping point for the barge boats. Regent’s Canal is also great if you’re into street art, there’s a lot of incredible graffiti to see!
Hackney Marshes
If you want to make a festival vibe out of your picnic, then Hackney Marshes is an ideal spot for that. It’s a big beautiful green field, filled with good vibes, people playing loads of music, throwing frisbees and soaking up the sunshine! There’s plenty of space, so bring your picnic hamper and blanket, and set up for a full day! If you’re feeling brave there’s also a cute lake you can swim in, very British summer time.
Haggerston Park
This spot is super peaceful, serene and ideal for nature lovers. Feed some squirrels, go for a walk through the mini forest amongst the flowers, and truly relax! Haggerston park is a perfect for a family picnic, lots of space, very chilled and beautiful.
The picnic spots around Hackney are endless (and all a stones throw from Kip Hotel!), these are just a few of our favourites, but one thing is for sure…you HAVE to do a Hackney picnic this summer.
