Go-To Breakfast Spots in East London
After you get your kip, kickstart your morning with our pick of the best breakfasts this side of London…
They say you should start off the day with a good breakfast, and in East London, you’re not short of places to head. If you’re staying with us, you can grab a Climpson & Sons coffee and a pain-au-choc to go, but if you want something bigger, that’s cool too. Grab your kicks and come with us for some of our favourite go-to breakfast spots around our neighbourhood …
The Bach
This breakfast pick – named after New Zealand’s beach houses – brings that laid-back Kiwi vibe to East London with bleached, distressed wood and lots of natural light. Using all organic produce in the most natural way they can find it, their menu is super fresh and full of healthy finds like homemade granola, toasted banana bread and the best corn fritters we’ve ever tasted in our life.
Location: 12 Broadway Market, London, E8 4QJ (they also have one in Hoxton)
Breakfast times: Mon-Fri (7am-5pm) Sat-Sun (8am-5pm) – all day breakfast menu!

Mess Cafe
Mess Cafe is to London, what the fry-up is to the UK – an institution. And at this breakfast hotspot you’ve got both in one place. They have no website, no Instagram, just a queue out the door and a tip from the locals. You’ve got classic dishes like full English breakfast, ice cold milkshakes, breakfast rolls with extra crispy bacon, and build-your-own options for veggies and vegans too. This was our go-to place when we were building Kip and is always a first stop when we’re feeling fragile.
Location: 8 Amhurst Road, London E8 1JN.
Breakfast times: Tues-Fri 07:00-17:00 Sat 08:00-18:00 Sun 08:00-16:00

E5 Bakehouse
Bakery, coffee shop and some of the best breakfasts you’ll find in East London. Their resident cooks use only locally-sourced, organic ingredients and sourdough made right behind your table.
If you’re bored of avo-toast, this is the place to go – their specials board switches up with unusual breakfast picks, like a bacon sarnie on sourdough with homemade beetroot ketchup or jerusalem artichoke with tenderstem broccoli, pumpkin seeds and a perfectly poached egg. It’s no wonder this gem in Hackney’s arches is always busy – although you can’t book, there are loads of tables and they move pretty fast – just soak it up, fill your nostrils with the smell of freshly baked bread and use the time to decide what to choose (trust us, you’ll need it).
Location: E5 Bakehouse, Arch 395, Mentmore Terrace, London E8 3PH
Breakfast times: Between 7.30am and 12 noon every day.

Black Cat Cafe
Vegans, we got you. You won’t find any bacon or eggs around Black Cat, but you will find a menu packed full of homemade vegan comfort food and plant-based breakfast options. Make sure to try the roast vegetable pancakes or the NY style vegan cream cheese and lox bagel – even if you’re not vegan, they’re next-level good.
Location: 76A Clarence Rd, London E5 8HB (they’ve also set up a pop-up tapas place in Shoreditch)
Breakfast times: Open every day except Tuesdays. 10am onwards

The Breakfast Club
Probably one of the most well-known places on this list, The Breakfast Club has a few locations throughout London. The closest to use is in Hackney Wick – just one stop away on the train, that gets you there faster than you can say ‘chipotle eggs benedict’.
Their Hackney digs shout ‘sunny side up’ with bright colours, retro interiors and big sharing tables that are good with a crowd of mates, or chatting to a stranger over some baked beans. Sweet tooth? Order their blueberry and granola waffle, or go spicy with their chorizo hash and huevos rancheros. One of the best bits? You can actually book online – which means no queues, no waiting, just slipping to your seat like the breakfast VIP you were born to be.
Location: 29 East Bay Lane, Canalside, Here East, Queen Elizabeth, Olympic Park, London, E15 2GW (loads of other locations too)
Breakfast times: Every day, 8am-12pm (party still continues until about 8pm/9pm if you want to try their other, equally tasty) dishes

Pelicci’s Café
The grandmother who served the Kray twins still works the kitchen. It looks the same as it did back then and it stars in the movie Legend – Pelicci’s was known as a haunt of the notorious twins. But more importantly than that, since 1900 the East End café has stuck to hearty food, warm hospitality, and salty humour. You’ll get shouted at in Cockney Rhyming Slang along with your ‘Molten Toffee’ (that means coffee). Find Pelicci’s Café on Bethnal Green Road, for a proper taste of the Great British greasy spoon.
Location: 332 Bethnal Green Road, London, UK, E2 0AG
Breakfast times: Monday to Saturday 7am – 4pm

Stone Cave
Stone Cave is a family-run Turkish-Mediterranean restaurant – which isn’t the first image that would come to mind when you think of breakfast, but trust us. They do twists on classics, like a Turkish Breakfast (fried egg, mixed olives, feta cheese, grilled Turkish sausage, tomato and cucumber, butter, jam & honey served with bread) or Menemens – which are basically skillet eggs with seasonal vegetables. Sure, it has more of a restaurant vibe, but don’t let that put you off – their breakfast menu is one to watch (and eat).
Location: 111 Kingsland High St, London, E8 2PB
Breakfast times: Open 10am every day – brunch menu served throughout the afternoon

Mother Works
“MOTHER opened its doors in 2016 with a passion to make wholesome plant-based food that doesn’t cost the earth”
Another plant-based pick for the vegans in the crowd, that’s all about organic produce, healthy balanced food and minimised waste (so bring your reusable cup). MOTHER is a must-visit for really simple, healthy choices, with in-house pressed juices, homemade granola and frozen acai bowls – like a slice of LA on the Hackney canalfront. You can’t book, but the queue moves fast and if it’s a nice day, grab something to go and sit by the canal for breakfast al-fresco.
Location: 1, Canalside Here East Estate, London E20 3BS
Breakfast times: Open 9:30am weekdays, 9am weekends up until 1:59pm for breakfast before lunch starts at 2pm

Here at Kip, we’re right next to Hackney Overground station – which is just a short walk or train ride from all these breakfast spots. And hey, if you don’t have time to visit them, or just want pre-breakfast before the main event, we’ll hook you up with some seriously good free coffee and pastries before you make your way.
